Environment

Subaru and our retailers are committed to protecting and preserving the Earth, not just by our words, but also by our actions.

Since 2018, as part of the Subaru Loves the Earth initiative, Subaru and retailers across the country have partnered with TerraCycle® and have collected over 7 million pieces of hard-to-recycle trash from their communities. Items such as snack bag wrappers, coffee cups, or used cabin air filters from service areas have been diverted from landfills and given a second life by TerraCycle when it is converted into durable furniture and other usable items.

Environment

Education

It's our goal to make the pursuit of knowledge available to as many minds as possible.

Since 2015 Subaru, in partnership with the American Association for the Advancement Science, donated over 369,000 award-winning science books. In addition, through our partnerships with Staples and Adoptaclassroom.org we supported teachers and students with donations of $400,000 in gift cards and school supplies.

Education

Community

In a perfect world, hunger would be history and hope would be commonplace. We believe a perfect world is possible.

In 2020, Subaru and its retailers made a donation to Feeding America to provide 50 million meals to help feed people in need during the COVID-19 crisis,* making meals available at 199 local food banks across the country.

*$1 helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks.

Community

Health

We should all have a chance to lead a healthy life. We’re aiming to give as many people that chance as we can.

Since 2016, Subaru and its retailers have partnered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to donate over 167,000 blankets and 21,500 arts & crafts kits and reached nearly 150,000 patients in more than 780 hospitals nationwide.

Love Promise Stories from Hansel Subaru

Subaru and Hansel Subaru believe in making a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work. We uphold that belief through our Love Promise Community Commitment. Every month, we select inspiring stories from customers and partners from around our area who strive to support our collective commitment and feature them here.

Subaru Love Promise

Through our partnership with Hansel Subaru, Santa Rosa CA, we hosted an adoption event during the month of October. We brought 15 kittens to Hansel Subaru, and by the end of the event, Humane Society of Sonoma County and Hansel Subaru helped 14 kittens find their perfect, loving home. Thanks to Stephanie from Hansel Subaru, we were able to do host a successful adoption event!

Hansel Subaru's 10-year Partnership with Canine Companions

Canine Companions for Independence raises, trains and places service dogs for those in need. Hansel Subaru has partnered with Canine Companions for 10 years and has donated nearly $200,000 to ensure Canine Companions can place these pups free of charge to their new friend. We also provide a wrapped loaner car to the group. Hansel Subaru also sponsored Puppy Hansel through his journey to become a service companion. He is almost down with his training program and will make an amazing Companion!

Hansel Subaru Really Loves to Care!

For the entire month of June, the team at Hansel Subaru had been collecting messages of hope from people in the community to be delivered to local cancer patients along with a warm, cozy blanket. Whether the messages came from customers passing through the dealership or fellow employees, the words on these messages warmed the hearts of the recipients almost as much as the blankets did.

Earth day 2022

For Earth day this year, some employees at Hansel Subaru volunteered to spend the morning cleaning up the street that the dealership is on and creating an outdoor employee area. By using old shipping pallets, Hansel Subaru hand built planter boxes to plant flowers and planted some trees in the area as well! Some teammates came in on their day off to participate in this event and others came in extra early for their Saturday shift to lend a helping hand. Because of the team at Hansel Subaru, Corby Avenue is litter-free and the employees have a wonderful outdoor area to relax at and help look after.

HSSC + Hansel Subaru Love Promise

Why are Monkey and Hobie smiling? They recently found loving forever homes with help from Hansel Subaru! With support from Subaru’s Love Promise program, we were able to provide medical care, behavior support and adoption services for 103 dogs and cats this past October! Monkey, a 7-year-old Doberman mix arrived at HSSC in need of medical attention for a wound on his hind leg. After receiving care in our shelter hospital, this affectionate sweetheart was quickly scooped up by his forever family. Shy senior tuxedo cat Hobie was very stressed when he first came to HSSC. We helped him feel safe, protected and loved – and then we placed him with an adopter committed to giving him a lifetime of quiet companionship. As a donor-supported safe haven for animals, HSSC relies on the compassionate support of our community partners to help us provide lifesaving care for homeless animals on their journey to adoption. We are so grateful to Hansel Subaru for helping us make amazing second chances possible!

Hansel Subaru Pet Adoption Event

In August of 2021, Hansel Subaru teamed up with the Humane Society of Sonoma County to host a pet adoption event. At this adoption event, the public was welcome to take a look at the many cats there and get more information about other animals available for adoption. For every animal that was adopted at this event, Hansel Subaru covered the cost of the adoption fees. We cannot wait to team up again for next year's event!

Corby Avenue Clean Up

On August 14th, 2021, the Hansel Subaru Green Team gathered twenty-one volunteers to clean up the street our dealership is on. Our team met up at 7am and spent the next two hours picking up trash, pulling weeds, and clearing debris to ensure that we are doing our part to take care of our planet. This clean up is something that we are going to be doing more often as we are hoping to encourage the other dealerships around us to join in and make a difference to not only our street but the enviroment too.

HSSC + Hansel Subaru Love Promise

The Humane Society of Sonoma County is committed to bringing people and pets together for a lifetime of love. We believe every pet deserves a loving home – and so do our friends at Hansel Subaru! As a donor-supported safe haven, we rely on compassionate community partnerships that enable us to provide shelter, lifesaving medical care, behavior support and lot of love for animals on their journey to adoption. This past October, we were grateful to Hansel Subaru for helping us to do just that for 96 animals at our Santa Rosa shelter! With help from the Love Promise program, we were able to rescue, rehabilitate – and best of all – find wonderful homes for animals who might not have had a chance at other shelters. Animals like Tiny Tot, a 12-year-old Chihuahua mix who had advanced dental disease and skin allergies, or Tiramisu, a tiny stray kitten who came to us with a severely damaged eye and an upper respiratory infection. Not only were we able to treat and heal these animals, we were able to place them with families who will love them forever. We are so grateful to Hansel Subaru for helping us provide hope for animals in need!

Fantastic and Honest Service

On February 24, 2020, I realized my air conditioning and heat were not working on my 2019 Forester Sport (purchased at Hansel Subaru). I called Joe Turgeon, my service advisor, and advised him of the situation. Joe told me to come on in, the same day I called. How many times does a service advisor say that at other places? Rarely. I drove to Santa Rosa from my home (55 miles away). Within 20 minutes, I found out the problem. Something completely out of the control of Subaru (rodent damage). Joe ordered the engine wiring harness that day. Joe also gave me the estimated cost of the repair for insurance purposes. Although Subaru didn’t have the part readily available, Subaru of North America heard my concerns and followed up with me. I then received a call from the Service Manager regarding the part and the wait. Everyone kept me in the loop. Yes, it took a week to get the harness, but that had nothing to do with the service from Hansel. Once the part was in, I rented a car and drove home. Joe gave me a realistic date for the repair to be done. Joe was completely above board with how long the repair would take. Well, the date to pick up my vehicle arrived. Joe then explained that all the parts had arrived and the technician determined that the damage was only to a certain sub section of the wiring harness and that was replaced. This saved my insurance company $700. That’s honesty what I could have been charged for the original estimate, how would I know the difference? I wouldn’t. My insurance would pay and it would be done with. This is just latest example of why I bought my Subaru(s) at Hansel. Joe is always on top of it with my service and gets me in and out as soon as possible. The sale was smooth and in one day. It’s the long term service that really goes above and beyond. I won’t let anyone else touch my Forester. I have nothing but good things to say about my after purchase experiences with Hansel Subaru.

Hansel Subaru Helps Enhance and Grant Wishes

Thank you Hansel Subaru for supporting Make-A-Wish Bay Area through your New Owner Clinic and the Share the Love Campaign! At their December 12th New Owner Clinic, Hansel Subaru asked guests to bring needed wish items, which resulted in a $480 value of gifts and cash donations. These wish items will be used to enhance wish reveals and send offs. Thanks to Hansel Subaru, 4-year-old wish kid Macie, who will be going to Disneyland over the holidays, received a special holiday Minnie Mouse in her wish bag. The event also helped raise the awareness level of Make-A-Wish in the community. Through the Share the Love campaign, Hansel Subaru and their customers have raised $14,864 for Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area over the last two years. Their generosity will help grant life-changing wishes for critically ill children in our community. These wishes help replace fear with confidence, sadness with joy, and anxiety with hope.

St. Joseph's Health Cancer Center

St. Joseph Health Regional Cancer Care offers multiple locations that are catered to meet your specific health needs. The center provides medical oncology services to treat cancer using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy at our outpatient clinics throughout the Bay Area. The Center is located on Round Hill Circle so named for the iconic round barn that burned down entirely in the 2017 Tubbs fire. It overlooks all of Santa Rosa and is in sight of nearly all of the devastation from the fires. In fact a major hotel that sat directly across the street from St. Joe’s is no longer in evidence. Several St. Joe staff have long been housed in a building on the same site as the hotel and did not receive any lasting damage from the fires themselves. While a great deal of rebuilding is underway here it is a striking contrast to come upon a cancer treatment center on such a desolate landscape. It seems to represent another kind of survivorship. I met Ilham Nusair and Angel Villafana, from St. Joesph’s Health Cancer Center who were very kind and informative though it was clear both were busy and would not have time to provide a tour.Barbara Ross and Jay Emery of Hansel Subaru arrived shortly after I did and we all unloaded the boxes and set up for pictures. Jay was familiar with the Subaru partnership with LLS but Barbara, being relatively new to Hansel was attending this event for the first time. Both were delighted to participate and we chatted about Subaru’s goal to raise $1 million for Light The Night. I promised to follow up with Barbara soon to see if they would be willing to be part of that effort. Afterwards we all helped tote the boxes inside the building where we said good bye.

Share the Love, Give Independence

Hansel Subaru is a pillar in the Santa Rosa community and has helped multiple organizations throughout the year, including Canine Companions for Independence. By including Canine Companions in the Share the Love Campaign, we are able to place more life-changing assistance dogs with people who need them most. Hansel Subaru donates to Canine Companions, but also encourage their clients to donate, and gives much needed in-kind advertising support by including Canine Companions’ logo in their marketing. This year they hosted a Halloween pet costume contest that resulted in multiple mentions on the radio station, which is advertising Canine Companions typically cannot pay for. In addition, Canine Companions is also borrowing a wrapped vehicle to use while visiting our graduates, puppy raisers and donors. The true gratitude for what Hansel has accomplished by investing in Canine Companions can be illustrated through the stories of our graduates. Marcella, one of our graduates from Rohnert Park was matched with a Hearing Dog named Vespa in May. Vespa is expertly trained to nudge Marcella when sounds occur in her environment. Before having an assistance dog Marcella struggled with being able to hear simple things that others might take for granted such as door bells, smoke alarms or her cell phone ringing. When she was matched with Vespa that all changed! “No more lost keys I dropped, missed phone calls, burnt cookies, sleeping through alarms, or friends stopping by and not hearing the doorbell,” Marcella said. She has greater independence knowing she is safer and has less worry about hearing sounds in her environment. Another success story for Canine Companions in 2018 was the launch of our pilot program to help veterans who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Because of partnerships like Hansel Subaru, we can continue to train our dogs to perform tasks to help people live better lives. Our first class of four veterans was on our campus in Santa Rosa in October. All four veterans immediately benefited by being matching with an assistance dog that can wake them up from a night terror by gently pulling a blanket off and turning on a light, be a buffer for them in public by blocking in front of the veteran or behind (having their back) and can interrupt anxiety throughout the day as it occurs. The dogs are also trained to retrieve medication from another room in case a veteran cannot get up to get it. David, one of the veterans in the first class said that the assistance dog he was matched with, Sesame, woke him up from two-night terrors before the training was over. “Sesame will help me cope with the demons in my dreams,” David said towards the end of the two-weeks. We truly appreciate the support Hansel Subaru gives us to make these stories possible. Through the Share the Love Campaign and Sponsorship to our gala, Hansel Subaru has donated over $83,000 to give greater independence to those who need it most. They are a true reflection of what it means to live in a community that cares. Thank you, Hansel Subaru!

LLS & Subaru Blanket Delivery

On July 17th, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Greater Bay Area Chapter teamed up with Hansel Subaru to deliver blankets, arts and craft kits, and dozens of message of hope cards written by the caring customers of Hansel Subaru. It was wonderful to see how many staff members from Hansel were ready to chip in and deliver the blankets to St. Joseph's, we had an entire crew to head over to St. Joseph’s. Our crew got even bigger with St. Joseph’s staff to bring in all the boxes of blankets! Thank you to Hansel Subaru for making a difference!

Blankets for cancer patients from Hansel Subaru

On July 25, staff from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Greater Bay Area Chapter teamed up with Andre and Jesse from Hansel Subaru to deliver 80 blankets, 10 arts & craft kits, and dozens of messages of hope to the St. Joseph Health Cancer Care in Santa Rosa. The staff from the cancer center were so excited & thankful to be receiving this generous gift from Subaru! As the nurses explained, even though it was a hot and sunny day outside, the chemotherapy drugs often cause patients to become cold from the inside out – so blankets are really much needed! At the hospital, we also met long-time LLS volunteer and leukemia survivor Dylan. Dylan was diagnosed with leukemia when he was only three years old. After beginning chemotherapy, doctors discovered that the treatment that works for most kids did not work for Dylan. He had to go into a special trial which fortunately saved his life! Today, Dylan is 14 and spends most of his time playing sports. You would never know looking at him today of all the struggles he has gone through. Dylan jumped in to help hand out blankets and words of encouragement to patients in the St. Joseph infusion center. What a touching moment to have Dylan passing out these blankets to his fellow survivors! Thank you, Hansel Subaru, for making this happen and supporting such an important and much-needed cause!

Hansel Subaru Pet Adoption Day!

Hansel Subaru of Santa Rosa recently partnered with the Sonoma Humane Society to help find homes for a large number of worthy dogs and cats seeking their forever homes. On July 9th, Hansel Subaru's showroom was filled with portable dog carriers each containing a happy, hopeful pooch. More than a dozen cats were in the Sonoma Humane Society's mobile trailer so visitors could see and meet them. The event, scheduled from 11:00am to 3:00pm, was heavily promoted for several weeks through social media and local FM radio station KRUSH, though nobody could predict if anyone would actually turn up, since this had never been done before at the dealership. Any fears about lack of attendance were quickly allayed. In no time, the parking lot was full, and dozens of animal lovers filled the showroom. Ears were scratched, tails were wagged, hearts were stolen, papers were signed. One by one, pups and cats, young and old, were carried off to loving homes. In the end, the day proved to be one of the most successful on-site pet adoption events ever for the Sonoma Humane Society, with eight dogs and 14 cats finding homes. "It was an absolutely amazing turnout," said Wendy Welling, director of marketing for the Sonoma Humane Society. “This day wasn't about generating car sales," said St. Louis. "It was just a happy feeling. Everyone was walking around all day with a smile on their face. Customer and staff morale was at an all-time high."

Subaru Loves the Earth

Hansel Subaru, in Santa Rosa, California is a proud participant of the "Subaru Loves the Earth" e-waste recycling event. The sales and management staff have been actively promoting the event to customers, friends, and family. "Subaru has a reputation as an earth-friendly company," says Wes St. Louis, general manager of Hansel Subaru. "We feel the e-waste event is a perfect fit for our customer base." Two large, cardboard receptacles have been placed in the showroom--alongside new Subarus on display--to receive e-waste, including old televisions, cell phones, printers, computers, and other electronic devices. All e-waste will be disposed of safely and conscientiously, recycling and keeping harmful materials out of our landfills. Hansel Subaru's already environmentally conscious customers have responded enthusiastically, bringing a variety of e-waste items for disposal. "It's about being part of the solution," says Wes. "Our customers appreciate that Hansel Subaru is making the effort, and that makes them feel even better about doing business with Subaru."

Subaru and Canine Companions: A Perfect Match

In November, Canine Companions for Independence® was selected by Hansel Subaru, in Santa Rosa, California, as the "Hometown" charity for the 2014-2015 Share the Love Campaign. We had a tremendous experience with Hansel's terrific leadership and sales staff who were so excited to have us involved. We brought puppies to the dealership, staged our GIANT blow up assistance dog, "Independence" outside the showroom, and brought graduate teams to meet Hansel's customers to talk about the remarkable work our assistance dogs perform on behalf of children and adults with disabilities. We had a booth inside the showroom with information which was hosted by our graduate teams and volunteers. We also provided a tour of our campus for Hansel employees prior to the start of the Share the Love Campaign. Most significantly, the overwhelming majority of customers who purchased a Subaru during the Share the Love Campaign selected Canine Companions as the charity of choice. We received over $11,000, thanks to at least 44 buyers who chose Canine Companions. We are thrilled with the results, and Hansel and Canine Companions are continuing their relationship in 2015. We're grateful to Hansel and Subaru for sharing the love with Canine Companions for Independence.

Dog Days

Hansel Subaru in Santa Rosa, California, has a long tradition of giving back to the community. As part of Subaru's Share the Love campaign, our dealership sponsored an event with a national, non-profit organization headquartered in our town that raises service dogs for the disabled. Two of our sales staff, Corey McGoldrick and Wes Hill, toured the facilities and helped organize an on-site event featuring these service dogs and demonstrating how they help change the lives of those in need. Customers were encouraged to join the fun by bringing their own dogs to the dealership on the day of the event. As a result of this event, considerable money and awareness of this vital service was raised. Many customers who bought new cars chose this organization to receive the $250 Subaru Share the Love donation. In addition, Corey McGoldrick and Wes Hill both signed up as volunteers at the service dog organization to help carry their good work forward into the future.
